The aptly named Le Bon Vivant opened its doors nearly two years ago in the bustling Little Burgundy neighbourhood of South-West Montreal. Just a stone’s throw from the Atwater market and sister restaurant Pizzeria Geppetto, the small, industrial-chic restaurant is a neighbourhood staple that expertly delivers all things breakfast, lunch and dinner – 7 days a week. Le Bon Vivant is the perfect place for no-fuss, delicious daily dining.
This compact space openly shares both dining room and kitchen, with the energy of both patrons and chefs playing off each other in a highly palpable way. Industrial lightbulbs hang above the bar which offers direct views of the open kitchen and team of hard-working cooks, while banquette seating and strategically placed tables make up the rest of the dining area.
The seasonally changing menu covers the back wall, with menu descriptors spelled out in playful white magnets. Comprised of both snacks and mains, Chef Fiodar Huminski – a Tavern on the Square alumni – serves plates that he clearly likes to eat. The menu reminds me of feasting at a chef-friends home, always impressing guests with their gourmet approach to everyday classics. Snacks include Korean style short ribs, assorted charcuterie (aged in-house) and to-die-for yakuza fries (think kimchi poutine!). For heartier mains, Le Bon Vivant has classics such as the ‘comeback burger’ with smoked bacon and swiss cheese, alongside grilled octopus and pan seared trout, or ethnically inspired dishes like beef goulash and tandoori chicken. There is something for everyone!
Brimming with locals, you will find all kinds of diners from girlfriends catching up to couples on date night. Guaranteed you will find Manager Gabrielle Hamelin in the mix greeting guests and making sure everyone is having a great time. And even after dinner, guests will stay to enjoy a cocktail or two while a mix of hip-hop and electro-pop play in the background. The vibe is young, fun and carefree.
Le Bon Vivant is open Monday to Friday from noon to 11:00 pm and Weekends from 10:00 am till 11:00 pm. Brunch reserved exclusively for weekends. This joint packs up quick, so stay tuned on DINR for any last minute openings.
